Renuvion J-Plasma Introduction and Application Training Workshop

The programme in brief

On the afternoon of Saturday 3 October 2026, in Hall A on level 5 of the Sheraton Can Tho Hotel, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Mekong Delta Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (MSAPS) held the Renuvion J-Plasma Introduction and Application Training Workshop, themed around advances in technique and the use of technology in modern liposuction. More than 300 aesthetic plastic surgeons and doctors attended.

The programme was attended by Assoc. Prof. PhD MD Nguyen Minh Phuong, Rector of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Assoc. Prof. PhD MD Nguyen Van Lam, Vice Rector of the University and MSAPS President, chaired the programme.

Opening address

Opening the programme, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Lam noted that liposuction and body contouring are among the most frequently performed aesthetic procedures today, and that their very familiarity makes them easy to underestimate. Clinical practice shows the opposite: this is a group of procedures with considerable potential for complications, many of which begin before the operating table, with a wrong indication, a poorly selected patient or a safety limit that is exceeded.

Liposuction-assisting devices and energy-based technologies are widening what surgeons can offer patients, he said, but the more powerful the technology, the more it demands a correct understanding of its principles, indications and limits. Regular, systematic updating of knowledge is therefore a professional responsibility towards patient safety.

Four topics along one line

The presentations followed a single continuous line, from theory and technique to supporting technology and complications in liposuction:

• Assoc. Prof. PhD MD Nguyen Hong Ha (Viet Duc University Hospital): liposuction with high-tension abdominoplasty, optimising contour and aesthetic safety.
• PhD MD Tran Van Duong (Cho Ray Hospital): lipoabdominoplasty, from theory to clinical application.
• Specialist Level II MD Le Trung Kien (Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy): body-contouring technologies and complications in liposuction, classic and contemporary.

Renuvion J-Plasma technology

Renuvion J-Plasma, which combines radiofrequency energy with helium plasma, was introduced from its operating principle to its application on subcutaneous soft tissue following liposuction. The message running from the opening address through to the discussion was that technology does not replace sound liposuction technique and correct patient selection.

Round table and live Q&A

Chaired by the programme chair, the three speakers came together for a round-table discussion to analyse, challenge and exchange views on the indications, technique and limits of the technology. Delegates in the hall scanned a QR code to send questions to the chair and speakers through the live Q&A system on msaps.vn.

Launch of the postgraduate textbook series

On the same afternoon, the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy formally introduced its seven-volume postgraduate textbook series, the result of several years of work by the Department's teaching staff. Following the editor-in-chief's introduction, the authors signed copies for delegates. A separate film and photos of the ceremony are on the textbook launch page.
